About KCLC

Kids Crossing Learning Center

"They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor." Isaiah 61:3

Kids Crossing Learning Center at LV|first United Methodist Church is a non-profit weekday school.
The mission of KCLC is to provide quality Christian educational programs for children, infant through 8 years of age, in a safe and nurturing environment. Our qualified staff seeks to team with parents to encourage physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth through developmentally appropriate activities. As a ministry of First United Methodist Church and a part of the Lawrenceville community, our purpose in all things is to unify children and families with Jesus Christ.
Our curriculum day begins at 9:00 am; please make every effort to bring your child to school by that time.
Lesson plans are developed weekly and are posted in the classroom. Our classrooms are set up in a learning center configuration, which allows the child to choose his/her activities. The children are guided and encouraged to learn new self-help skills, think for themselves, make choices, experiment, explore, make mistakes, and have a lot of fun.
Kids Crossing Learning Center uses Age Appropriate Milestones and Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards, which provides the framework on which teachers develop lesson plans. Our lesson plans build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did-mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. Luke 2:52

We will always inform you

Throughout the school year, we will assist you by providing continuing information regarding our programs and how they fit the developmental stages that your child experiences. We will keep you informed about field trips, holidays, curriculum, and other important information through our website, newsletters, app, and your child’s teacher.

Parents are encouraged  to participate in the twice a year conferences to discuss their child’s developmental progress. These are usually held in the fall and the spring of the year.

Our History

The First United Methodist Church Preschool was established in 1987 under the direction of Suzanne Stevens.  Mrs. Stevens and her staff of 4 served 58 children that first year.  The Preschool was located in what is now called the Upper Preschool Hall in rooms 104, 106, and 111.  The present-day administrative office area at that time was the church fellowship and gathering area.  The Preschool used that area for a large indoor gross motor area and a Music and Movement classroom.
Over the years the preschool has grown and now meets in the Lower Preschool Hall in rooms 151, 153, 155, 157, and 156 as well as six classrooms in the Upper Preschool Hall. During this time, the Preschool was recognized as a School of Excellence from 1996 by the North Georgia United Methodist Church Conference Preschool Association and Accredited by the National Association of the Education of Young Children from 1997.

In the fall of 2007, the full day program opened. The preschool changed its name as Kids Crossing Learning Center. With the desire to minister to all children, we served infants through 13 years of age in a variety of settings, from half day to full day, to before and after school, and summer camp.
In the fall of 2009, KCLC merged with the Parent’s Morning Out program to further extend our purpose to unify children and families with Jesus Christ.
Kids Crossing Learning Center has grown through at least three different playground areas in its lifetime. The Outdoor Classroom provides not only gross motor experiences on four different types of surfaces that challenge each child to develop to their fullest potential but also encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills through science, math, and language art development in the natural outdoor setting.
