May 18th, 2026

This Sunday, we explored how we can often get trapped in our nostalgia and "declinism" — the belief that everything was better "back in the day." The Ascension story challenges that and reveals Jesus' radical vision: to launch the Kingdom of God for all people, everywhere. The Ascension isn't about waiting for Jesus' return, it's about bring heaven to Earth by the Holy Spirit working through us.

Sermon Notes

This week's scripture was Acts 1:1-11
This week's scripture was Acts 1:1-11
- You are the plan: Jesus trusted you and me with the mission of restoration. We're not waiting for God to fix everything—we're empowered by the Holy Spirit to be agents of change in our families, neighborhoods, and city.
- Meaning comes from moving outward: True purpose is found when we become "a means to an end that doesn't end with us." The Spirit's power isn't for our comfort but for impact beyond ourselves.
- Defy the gravitational pull: Instead of retreating to what's safe, familiar, and "ours," we're called to move beyond our comfort zones to reach "them"—even the people we might not naturally connect with—because God's kingdom includes everyone.
